“Calico or poplin”: experts tell which bed linen to choose

OSN: People who prefer softer bed linen should choose linen made of poplin rather than calico

Bed linen made of calico and poplin is one of the most popular in its price category. The Public News Service asked experts which fabric to choose for bed linen .

Experts note that poplin bed linen comes in a variety of colors, is hypoallergenic, so it is suitable for children, and also retains its color when machine washed. However, the fabric may contain wool fibers, so the linen may shrink during washing. Scars may appear on it over time.

Calico consists of 100% natural raw materials and has a low cost, also tolerates washing well and is suitable for people who are prone to increased sweating. Among the disadvantages, experts note slight shrinkage after the first wash and long drying.

The difference between the advantages and disadvantages of the materials is insignificant, so there is no clear answer to the question of which fabric to choose, experts continue. If you want softer to the touch bed linen, then you should give preference to poplin. In terms of fabric care and durability, calico is a more convenient option.

Professor of the State University of Education Sergei Gildenskiold previously said that bed linen should be changed at least once a week, and pillowcases twice as often, because in seven days the bed turns into a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi.
